Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no "national" type pro competitions where skaters of a particular nation compete. Nowhere Elisabeth Manley and Josee Chouinard (when she was momentarily pro) can duke it out to represent Canada in the World Team Championships. 8)

Pro (and pro/am) competitions seem to be by invitation (or nomination by some mysterious governing body) only and, in general, really poorly judged. Nevertheless, there is a lot of money floating around at these things, and everyone likes to win, even if it is the Fox Rock and Roll Figure Skating Championships. 8P 8).
